First impressions from Microsoft VC Summit 2008
The event takes place in Mountain View, California (very near to Google)
About 50 people gathered, a large group from Microsoft is courting.

There are a lot of Russians. From those whom I know - Alexandra Johnson (DFJ), Arthur Baganov, Alex Gurevich (DFJ), Sergey Eremin (Moscow Microsoft), Alexander Kashirin (SBAR). Of ours - only I Vlad Resurrection (InviziblSRM).
Microsoft started an interesting business. They decided to create a venture infrastructure that should pursue the following goals:
1. Create a bridge between entrepreneurs and investors
2. Help start-ups in a variety of areas, ranging from technical assistance, to finding experts who can be connected to mentoring.
3. Use the MS partner network to promote a product developed by a startup.
4. It is very interesting to try to teach that they would not want startups not to suffer from the secrecy of the MS strategy, i.e. so that startups do not work on products that will be made by MS. On the one hand, it’s good that, knowing MC plans, entrepreneurs will not risk their business by developing products that will enter the market and be crushed by the MC marketing machine. On the other hand, if you follow this mainstream, then products such as Opera and Firefox did not appear. Still, more risks - more income, so that I noted it as a controversial point.
Very serious people gathered who are responsible for different areas of work with start-ups, from vertical products, ending with a geographical focus.
But it reminds you of this whole thing, as you cannot resist - heading the JMS usually is attacked by start-ups in which venture capital funds are invested, which means that by creating comfortable conditions for cooperation for them, you can buy their loyalty. + access to information that the market is hot at the moment. And everything is created so that it is difficult for startups to refuse such cooperation.
Let's see what will happen tomorrow - in theory, should open Steve Ballmer. Let's listen.
Everything looks very nice on the eve of InvestDay on BlogCamp, the MS has signed up for support, everything looks within the framework of their strategy, which has been announced.
I will write in more detail in the
blog.
