What people hate on websites

Aggressive advertising, links to "trust" and flash screensavers - this is an incomplete list of things that irritate visitors to any site. For the average user, the convenience of navigation means much more than a stylish design, sometimes incomprehensible. However, there are still sites on the Web where convenience has been sacrificed for beauty. Teresa Cannigton (Theresa Cunnington), a usability consultant at iFocus , gives a list of the most hated design delights from the perspective of the average user.

For example, flash animation very often causes nothing but annoyance. The “Skip intro” button (“Skip intro”) is probably the most popular button on the Internet. The reason is that the screensaver is perceived as an obstacle to entering the site. According to Cannigton, flash animation is a typical example of the so-called "Jurassic design." This refers to the archaic, uncivilized approach.

From a design point of view, each site is presented as a battleground between form and functionality. This is an "eternal" problem. With the development of technology, opposition only takes on a new look.

According to experts iFocus, users most dislike five things.

1. Aggressive advertising. Especially hateful advertising, which partially or completely covers the content that blinks on the screen and that absorbs traffic.

2. The invention of the wheel again. People do not like to deal with navigation on a non-standard, incomprehensible site.

3. “Trust” links when the size and type of the file being referred to is not indicated.

4. Sites where eyes run up. Abundant use of flashing elements and banners distract users.

5. Pages in the style of "War and Peace". This refers to pages with a large amount of plain text. Designers should understand that the Internet is a special medium with its own expressive means. Traditional printing techniques are unacceptable here.

And one more problem that has recently manifested itself is the “invisibility” of the right side of the page. Due to the fact that the right part of the page is very often allocated for advertising, users pay less attention to it.
