Video portal Dailymotion came to Russia

On Monday, the official opening of the Russian version of the French portal Dailymotion.com took place. The video service, which is second only to YouTube and Chinese Tudou, is rarely discussed in the press and among the audience. This fact, however, plays in many ways to his advantage, forming a distinctive atmosphere on the site. In any case, Dailymotion content is quite different from YouTube content.

In addition to the videos made by amateurs, the site actively hosts programs of the leaders of the media industry. On the localized version, you can already watch videos from Universal Pictures Russia, Central Partnership and a number of music labels, as well as information channels Cosmopolitan and Cnews.

Dailymotion claims support for HD 720p video, but the bitrate of movies at this resolution is far from nominal, so the picture quality looks quite a bit better than usual.

It’s too early to talk about redistribution of niches in runet between the newcomer and veterans. Russia was not the first among the countries that were affected by the expansion of Dailymotion, so there is little reason to assume that the owners of the portal have Napoleonic plans. And the French do not come to us with Napoleonic plans.
