694 million users online

In comScore Networks conducted a study, literally a planetary scale. The main result of the survey: 694 million people aged 15 and over visited online worldwide in March 2006. That is, in just one month about 14% of the world's population come to the Web.

The results of comScore Networks, according to Andrew Lipsman, a company spokesman, are a global assessment of the scale of the online “universe”. It is based on data from countries in the world, in the aggregate of which 99% of all Internet users live as a whole. And the comScore World Metrix system used in its work is nothing more than the largest online research panel that records the qualitative and quantitative indicators of the audience.

So, according to comScore World Metrix, the Internet is still the most popular in the United States: approximately 152 million users live here, which is approximately 22% of the total worldwide. However, 10 years ago, two thirds of all Internet users came out of America. Such a significant decrease in the share of Americans in the army of “users” is explained by the active involvement of people from Asian countries in www. Thus, over the period, the aggregate of users from China, Japan, India and Korea accounted for about 25% of the total network audience, namely, 168.1 million people. The Americans themselves, it seems, are only pleased: “This is a big step forward for the industry as a whole, since the weight of markets outside the US - especially Chinese and Indian - is growing significantly,” says Chris Dobson of MSN International.

As for Russia, according to the study, there were 10.833 million Internet users in the country - approximately, as in the Netherlands, where there are 10.969 million. At the same time, according to the results of ROMIR Monitoring , in our country 22% of the adult population go to the Network every month, that is, about 25 million people. The difference is big, especially if you consider that ROMIR counts users at the age of 18+, while comScore World's Metrix has an age limit of 15 years.

The quality of Internet life, which is expressed, in particular, in the amount of time spent on the web, is Israel, where users, on average, went online for 57.5 hours during the month. The Finns follow the Israelis - they spent 49, 3 hours on the Internet. Not less than 40 hours were residents of South Korea, the Netherlands, Taiwan, Sweden, Brazil and Hong Kong on the Web. Russians and Americans on Internet activity are far from them - neither those nor others are included in the top 20 comScore World Metrix.

Interesting and picture of the distribution of user attention. Thus, the absolute majority of Internet users - 538 million - people visited the sites of MSN-Microsoft . About 496 million people visited Google sites. Yahoo! pages are also very popular. - about 480 million people come here. About half of the MSN-Microsoft audience is trading on eBay, namely approximately 270 million people. Wikipedia sites are browsing around 132 million.

In conclusion, we note that when analyzing data from comScore World Metrix, traffic from computers located in Internet cafes was not taken into account. In addition, user exits to the Network from mobile phones and handheld computers were not considered.
