Are yahoo you? (reflections on mail on yahoo)

I wonder if many people told Yahoo owners how their famous slogan translated into Russian literally sounds like (“Do you like Yahoo”)?

Once a year, according to tradition, entered the mail Yahoo. Glad and upset. I was glad: the interface (all from AYaksovy, in many places, look, the context menu) became more pleasant. Grieve: IMAP on Yahoo as no, it is not planned.

Not to be unfounded, this is the answer of their technical support in response to my question, whether in this life there will be access to Yahoo mail via IMAP.

While we cannot provide an implementation of the plans for the IMAP, we appreciate and appreciate. What you have seen in Yahoo! Mail are because of users like you. Improve and improve our services.

Translated into Russian: Although we cannot provide information regarding future plans for the implementation of IMAP, we are grateful and appreciate the comments and feedback from our users. The changes for the better that you see on Yahoo Mail are due to the promotion of people like you. We sent a copy of your message to our Quality Control group - your wishes help us to constantly accompany and improve our service.

In the letter, they have a lot more florid "squats" and admiration for how good I am that I use the paid version of their service.

Yahoo Mail's “face” is quite good. I would dare to assert, better than any others, known to me (and many are known to me).

But the presence of only POP3 and only paid users for me is a great mystery. Just do not need me to say that IMAP servers by orders of magnitude stronger load "iron". Now wherever you stick your finger - almost all the largest free (and especially paid) services provide IMAP. From the flawed and unprotected (Mail.ru) to the very advanced (Fastmail, Google Mail, etc.).

One explanation that comes to mind is that Yahoo is not at all interested in reading mail without seeing any advertising or anything else. (I think they know that there are wonderful ways to filter ad units - I don't see ads at all when visiting their sites). That is, an email client. And the answer of the support service (in fact, the polite version of “yes, we understand that you need it, but it does not move us”) fits in well with this hypothesis.

Sorry, very sorry. I will not renew the paid version of the local mail. I see no reason to pay for the fact that much worse than what I get from Google Mail for free.

"Is ya a yahoo?"
