Automated image layout process

Hey. I would like to learn from web developers, (if someone came across and solved this problem).

There is a jpeg file. It depicts a product, for example, a laptop on white (and other variations of the background).
It is necessary to remove the solid-background and leave only the laptop and place it on a different background.

I read the manual on imagemagick, but unfortunately the tutorials did not work. It is not clear whether this is actually done or not.
