SanDisk makes a musical bet on slotMusic

SanDisk, working with major record companies, is trying to compete with online stores and supplant CDs that are used as physical media to distribute music.

To this end, SanDisk has released slotMusic, a 1 GB microSD memory card, which will be sold with pre-recorded musical compositions. Among SanDisk's siders are labels such as EMI Music, Sony BMG, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group (i.e. all the largest ones). The advantage of slotMusic will be the lack of recorded songs (by the way, the bitrate will be 320 Kbps) DRM-protection, which will allow you to easily share music with friends.

Included with the memory card will be supplied USB-adapter (all compatible with Windows, Linux or Mac OS X). So far, the cost of slotMusic and the timing of market launch is not known. SanDisk promises to provide this information closer to Christmas.
