At the NAB Show event held in late April, Intel introduced the second generation accelerator for working with Intel Visual Compute Accelerator 2 media data. The device is designed to improve processing performance and streaming high-definition video. Intel VCA2 is a PCIe x16 device based on three Intel Xeon E3-1500 v5 processors, specially designed for the needs of video conversion. In essence, this is a “server in a server” that provides its computing resource to the host system. It will find its application in servers for cloud media services, and in workstations that turn heavy content. Under the cut - the accelerator characteristics in comparison with the previous generation of Intel VCA.
Obviously, the performance of the new Intel VCA has increased significantly due to the use of new generation processors. There are no real results of comparative testing yet, but this is a matter of time. It is also unclear whether VCA2 will be in demand on the market - so far there is only a single purchaser partner.
