The company Yuneec International can not be called famous and popular. However, it was she who launched the professional-grade drone on the market - the Yuneec Typhoon H hexacopter. It was created in collaboration with Intel, which put a lot of effort into the development process. Geksakopter for the first time was shown at CES 2016, where he attracted the attention of both drone specialists and ordinary technology enthusiasts.

This is not surprising - the drone looks great and works great. Despite the size, Yuneec Typhoon H can be easily transported - its “rays” are folded, after which the hexacopter is placed in a special backpack. And yes - these "rays" are carbon sturdy supports. In the lower part of the drone is placed 3-axis suspension for the camera. You can shoot at all 360 degrees. In addition to the camera, the hexacopter differs from other “brothers” in a number of advantages.

What can Yuneec Typhoon H do?

The developers have tried to simplify the system, making it ready for flight out of the box. Difficult preparations or many hours of assembly are not needed - just unpack the hexacopter and you can fly. Moreover, professional skills are also not required - the smart engine and the most complex elements of the flight can perform other functions independently. One of its main advantages is the ability to identify obstacles thanks to sonars located in the front. The drone is available in three different trim levels (for details, see below). The first two imply the presence of sonars (standard and Pro version), but in the maximum configuration (Pro RS version) the copter can not only detect an obstacle and stop, but also fly around all problem areas on the go. This is possible thanks to the Intel RealSense technology, a module with the appropriate "stuffing", comes in a set and is installed on the hexacopter separately.


The technology itself works in conjunction with a special camera "Intel RealSense R200". The point is that during the flight, the drone creates a three-dimensional "picture" of the surrounding space. Analyzing the created model, the hexakopter makes the best route for itself, avoiding any obstacles in its path. In addition, Typhoon H is able to follow the goal, which makes it possible to shoot a cyclist's ride or create a miniature film about his adventures.



Drone remembers all the places you ever visited. Models of the surrounding space are stored in memory, when the copter gets to a familiar place, it uses the data already available for optimal performance. On the ground, the drone is guided by ultrasound, namely the IPS (Optical Flow Sensor) sensors. So he can fly both day and night, equally well avoiding obstacles at any time of the day.

To control the Typhoon H, a special “personal ground station ST16” was created, the developers call their console. It runs on the Android OS. It has several controls, a pair of antennas and a 7-inch LCD display.



The drone comes in three different trim levels. In the configuration of Pro and Pro RS there is a remote control device Wizard remote. This is a minimalist console, in which there are significantly fewer buttons than at the “station”. Wizard is equipped with its own GPS module, it can be used to easily control the drone by setting various flight modes. Flight control is carried out using the buttons "up", "down", "right" and "left". The remaining buttons on this console are responsible for working with the flight modes of the hexacopter, including the following mode. Thanks to the GPS beacon in the console, the drone will always know where the owner went.



If desired, the "station" and the remote can be used simultaneously, for example, to separate the functions of the operator and the pilot. One person controls the flight, the second - the camera.

We talked briefly about some of the modes above, now let's look at the flight of the drone in detail. Yuneec Typhoon H has a total of 6 different flight modes:













Whichever mode is chosen, the drone assumes the most difficult elements so that the operator does not have to waste time on solving such problems during the flight.

Six drone rotors provide smooth flight with high maneuverability and controllability. The maximum speed is 70 km / h. Vertical take-off speed - 18 km / h. Yuneec Typhoon H can rise to a height of 1600 meters (factory settings - 122 meters, can be changed in the settings).

What to shoot?




Included with the drone is its own camera, developed by Yuneec. This is a 12MP camera CGO3 + 4K UHD. It has several modes of operation, including UHD: 4K at 30FPS, 2.7K at 30FPS, 2.5K at 30FPS; FULL HD: 1080p at 24/25/30/48/50/60 / 120FPS; The viewing angle of the camera is 98 degrees.

As for the "station", it is worth noting the relative simplicity of working with it. It looks from the outside it is difficult, but in fact everything is clear - a couple of flights will be enough to manage the drone automatically. Thanks to the HDMI output, the image from the drone can be immediately output to any compatible device, including video glasses. The maximum distance of the drone from the operator is 1.6 kilometers. The battery provides offline operation for up to 25 minutes. It charges about 2 hours.

Among the minuses can be noted that the kit is only one battery. In case you want to use another camera, you will have to be a little disappointed - the drone is compatible only with the camera that comes in the kit, others cannot be used. We did not notice other shortcomings. Perhaps they were looking bad :)


In general, this device is capable of much. The drone can be used at sporting events, on the march (of course, if you are willing to take extra weight with you), fishing or in any other situation. Also, it is suitable for those who are professionally engaged in video and photography.
