Amazon launches CDN for small startups

Amazon plans to open a content delivery network (CDN) before the end of the year in addition to the entire arsenal of its AWS web services, including S3 hosting and EC2 distributed computing network. Like them, a CDN will work for everyone who needs to distribute large amounts of information over HTTP. There will be a standard payment system after the fact, and the prices will traditionally be very low. It is planned that open API will be common for S3 and for CDN. That is, everything will remain as it is now, but when you request an object from S3 hosting, the client will now be redirected to the nearest content delivery point.

Such a system allows novice web start-ups to enter the market with minimal investment in infrastructure. In other words, Amazon is commoditizing this business . Amazon's powerful infrastructure can compete not only with the beginner CDN networks, but also with the giants in this market, Akamai and Limelight.

Interestingly, the company launched the CDN is not quite on their own. She was literally forced to do this, because small startups had already begun to de facto exploit her own S3 service as a real CDN.
