Hello dear Habrasoobschestvo. This is my first post and blah, blah, blah. So tell me if something goes wrong. :)
So let's get started.
Pretty recently put Linux next to Windows. And in Linux, or rather in Konqueror, I liked working with files using tabs. I thought to look for something similar for Windows, or more precisely for Explorer, similar to the feature and somehow forgotten and did not search. And here recently I saw
QTTabBar . This plugin allows you to attach the usual Explorer tabs.
Installation
Installation requires Windows XP + .NET 2.0 Framework or later or Windows Vista. The archive with the plugin and some additional utilities (you need to work with them from the command line, they were not useful to me) weighs only about 600 KB, after installing Explorer a little gets fat. And if earlier he ate about 16-18 MB of RAM, now it can take 55-60 MB, but I did not notice any monstrous deterioration in performance (I have 512 MB), as they say you like to ride…. But he eats so much only when working with the Explorer window. And if the window is not active, then the size is significantly reduced, if minimized, then the size miraculously decreases to 2-3 MB.
Well, if you are not scared =) then go ahead, download the plugin, install, reboot Explorer or computer. Next, turn on our plugin: View \ Toolbar put daws opposite the items:
- QT TabBar - directly tabbed panel.
- QT Standart Buttons - a panel with control buttons, what would you think ... correctly, tabs =).
The default language is English, if necessary, then we download the localization file there and specify the path to it in the settings.
Now it remains to pull the panels in places and use.
Dry and brief about some of the possibilities.
- The search field on the QT Standart Buttons panel - as you enter text, files and folders are deleted, whose names resemble the entered text =).
- The menu item “Combine tabs in one window” - stuffs all open Explorer’s windows into one window and lays them out in tabs.
- The ability to create groups of folders - allows you to open several folders with one click. Hotkeys can be attached to a group or set to autorun, i.e. each time you open Explorer, the window will open with tabs from this group.
- There is an opportunity to create a similarity to the Start menu right on the Explorer panel.
- Another very pleasant thing, when adding a program to this menu, you can choose what to pass as a parameter.

- History - remembers opened files and folders
- At the prompts appears thumbnails of pictures, video files, text documents. You can customize file types and size hints.

- When you hover over the folder \ drive, an arrow appears, when you click on it you will see a list of files and folders that are contained in \ on the folder \ drive.

- If you have Windows XP, then you should have such a nice little thing: when you rename, only the file name is highlighted, bypassing the extension.
- When viewing the file list - Table, you can select the entire line, plus dividing lines are drawn, plus a different color for the lines

- Setting the image on the background of the panels, I used to use my own program and only bmp-files, and now you can, and jpg, and png, and gif.

Some hot keys
- Ctrl + N \ Ctrl + Drag - the current tab is copied.
- Ctrl + O - opens the folder selected in the appeared window in a new tab.
- Ctrl + L \ Ctrl + Click - protects the current tab from being closed.
- Ctrl + H - tabs history.
- Ctrl + Tab - switch from tab to tab.
- Click the middle button \ Wheel - open the folder in a new tab.
- Ctrl + Scroll wheel in the working area of the folder - change view (Table, Icons, etc.).
At last
I can also advise
QTAddressBar - this is the address bar "pulled out" of Windows Vista.
So, here I described only the most basic charms of this plugin. If you describe in more detail, then it will shoot at too many beacons =). Surprisingly, the plugin has a lot of settings that IMHO really need.
PS I learned many possibilities in the process of writing this topic =), so if you find something else interesting, write.
