Thawte WOT: Certificate for Email Signing

I read the Web of Trust topic and remembered that there is a way to get a valid certificate from Thawte for signing and encrypting email (and not only) for free.

Thawte has a free X.509 personal certificate program - Web of Trust . The essence of the program comes down to the fact that after registering on the site and going through the certification process, you will receive a certificate with your name, which will be trusted by all systems that have Thawte as the Root Certification Authority. And since it is one of the largest centers, almost everyone trusts it.

In short, you have to run: the system is based on the personal contact of a person who wants to receive a certificate and so on. notary After registering on the site you will have 0 certification points. Each of the notaries can add you a certain number of points depending on their "qualifications". After you have visited several notaries (usually two with a good rating are enough) and scored 50 points, you become a full-fledged certificate holder with an unlimited validity period (i.e., the validity of each certificate is limited, but it can be revoked and reissued an unlimited number of times ).

So, if you are interested, you need to do something like the following:
')
- Register in the form of an application for a certificate ;
- Find two notaries and get 50 points or pay $ 25 and not go anywhere.

To get points from a notary, you need to find him in the list of your region, arrange a meeting with him and meet in person, having two documents with you with identification photos.

There are about 40 notaries in Moscow, they also exist in St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Tomsk and Krasnodar.

So, if you need to confirm the authenticity of your personal email address / letter or encryption, then this is a good option to get a certificate from a well-known supplier for free.
