Apple Power Mac G4 Cube and its contemporaries in a small photo review

Hello. According to the results of the last vote , now there should have been a review of Silicon Graphics O2, but, I confess, I haven’t finished everything on it, but for now a small review of the Apple Power Mac G4 Cube as entertainment.

So, it was July 2000 in the courtyard, everyone successfully survived the Millennium, the end of the world did not come, and even watches in computers happily showed the 00th year. What were the computers in 2000 and how is the Power Mac G4 Cube so different from them that came out on July 19, 2000?

As it turned out, you can not just take and google pictures of computers in 2000. For help, I had to turn to PC World and Home Computer magazines, which scans were easier to find. After reviewing the archive of these journals for the 2000th and the half of 2001, I found that almost all system blocks look, let's say, traditionally. And this applies to branded blocks and all sorts of self-assembly. What does advertising from the pages of computer magazines offer us? (I beg your pardon for the quality of the pictures, it will be better further).

Yes, there were some more interesting specimens:

But in general, it looked all pretty monotonous and sad.

I am not a fan or fan of Apple technology, but when I got to the museum (details in profile;)) I got the G4 Cube and I was very impressed with its appearance and technical performance:

A kit with a 17 "monitor, system unit, external power supply, keyboard, mouse and speakers. Detailed specifications can be found here . To be fair, I can say that the speakers in the photo are from the iMac G4 (Jobs lamp), but they look quite similar.

The system unit itself is a parallelepiped with rounded edges of acrylic with a thickness of about 6 mm, in the upper part of which there is a silver cube. With the right light, it seems that the cube is hanging in the air.

Above is a slotted DVD drive and fan grill. Also on the top plane there is a touch on switch button, which works fine through thick acrylic and has a smoothly changing white backlight.

To get to the components, you need to turn the case and remove the inner cube by the handle.

The cube itself is quite compact, with an ATI Rage 16 Mb video card with VGA and ADC interfaces visible on the side.

On the top, there is a radiator, a power button and a DVD drive slot. Side mounted standard IDE HDD 3.5 "

The cube is powered by an external 28V power supply.

The monitor is powered by the same power supply through the ADC interface

A cable is provided on the cable to prevent it from breaking.

In my copy, there is a German Mac OS 9.1, which doesn't make much sense to describe :)
Thank you for attention.
