AMD introduced the processors Ryzen 7

On February 22, 2017, AMD officially introduced the Ryzen family of desktop processors . The very processors that should finally make AMD competitive with Intel in all market segments, including hi-end. The past generation of Bulldozer processors was in many ways a disappointment and was limited mainly to the use of low-end in low-cost configurations. The technical characteristics of the new chips give grounds for cautious optimism: AMD managed to achieve a 52% increase in the number of executable machine instructions per clock (Zen's goal exceeded 40%). In this case, eight cores and the price from $ 329 to $ 499 . This puts Ryzen on par with the best Intel processors.

The Ryzen family is large, but the most high-performing Ryzen 7 chips will be the first to sell. All of them have eight cores, 16 threads and support for simultaneous multitasking.

The line Ryzen 7 is represented by three processors.

The top chip Ryzen 7 1800X worth $ 499 should compete with the Intel Core i7-6900K processor worth $ 1,089- $ 1109 . According to AMD performance tests, these processors have approximately the same results in single-threaded tasks. In multi-threaded tasks, the Ryzen 7 1800X takes precedence.

Tests were conducted in the benchmark Cinebench. In single-threaded tasks, the processors showed the same result as 162. In multi-threaded Ryzen 7 1800X - the result is 1601, which is 9% more than the Core i7-6900K.

Comparing the most powerful processors from AMD and Intel, the first one has a head start in frequency: the base frequency of 3.6 GHz versus 3.2 GHz of the Core i7-6900K. In turbo mode, they have the same frequency of 4.0 GHz. If the tests were conducted at the base frequency, then AMD may be inferior to Intel in terms of performance per megahertz. But for most users, the end result is important, not theoretical indicators. That is the real performance and price. For both of these indicators, the Ryzen 7 1800X surpasses the Core i7-6900K, according to AMD.

The Ryzen 7 1800X is now the fastest 8-core processor on the market, AMD says. Similar, Ryzen benchmarks from a recent leak were close to real numbers.

The second processor from the presented Ryzen 7 1700X ($ 399) line in the Cinebench multi-core benchmark shows a result of 1537, that is, 4% more than the Core i7-6900K ($ 1089).

In the end, the third Ryzen 7 1700 processor with power consumption up to 65 W shows a result of 1410 points in the Cinebench multicore test. AMD compares it with the result of the Core i7 7700K, which is sold for about the same price of $ 339, but the Ryzen 7 1700 outperforms it by 46%.

Ryzen 7 1700 is positioned as the most economical 8-core processor on the market, while significantly exceeding the performance of Intel processors in the same price category. Ryzen 7 1700 comes complete with a quiet Wraith Spire cooler that runs at 32 dB. So it will be much quieter than the two more powerful brothers in the lineup.

In the real task of video encoding in the Handbrake test, the Ryzen 7 1700 processor coped with the task in 61.8 s, and the Core i7 7700K in 71.8 s.

In 2009, the Federal Trade Commission acknowledged that the Cinebench tests provide an unfair advantage to Intel compared to AMD processors, since they use optimizations from the Intel compiler

Like Intel, the final line of Ryzen will consist of three families: premium processors Ryzen 7, mid-level Ryzen 5 and the cheapest Ryzen 3. Now only the most productive and expensive are presented, the other two families will be released later in the year, AMD does not call exact dates.

New processors are already available for pre-order . Deliveries will begin March 2, 2017. AMD plans to prevent any shortage: the chips will be in abundance, just as they promise a rich choice of motherboards for every taste. ASRock, Asus, Biostar, Gigabyte and MSI should release 82 different models of motherboards on the AM4 platform with AMD X370 and B350 chipsets. In the very near future, top-end gaming desktops, assembled and optimized for games on the Ryzen platform, will appear on the market (and in the second quarter another powerful video accelerator Radeon Vega will be released, which will only add to everyone's happiness).

If AMD keeps all promises, then AMD and Intel competition may return to the market of desktop processors. Perhaps with price wars, like in the good old days. This is great news for everyone in the world, except Intel employees and shareholders.

Now pre-orders for chips and computers with Ryzen processors are open at 180 retail stores and integrators.

According to some analysts , AMD deliberately stretches the announcements in time to leave the field for a tactical maneuver and cause more damage to the competitor. At the same time, Intel also has options for responding. First of all, this is a reduction in prices for their processors.
