Appearance

Included with the smartphone is a USB-charger and a short USB-micro USB adapter.

The case of the smartphone is plastic, but with a very high-quality coating under brushed aluminum. Comes in three colors.

Above the camera is a hole of one of the microphones. The camera module itself is slightly recessed into the case. The flash is plain, monochrome. Under the camera is a fingerprint scanner. Visually, this is not noticeable, but it is tactilely clearly visible that the scanner is recessed into the case more than the camera, so that you can not touch them and wonder why the smartphone will not unlock.

At the bottom is a large mesh dynamics.

The ZenPhone 3 Max has no sharp edges or corners: the case is flattened, licked, and even the edges of the protective glass display are rounded.

Thanks to the “streamlined” shape and smoothness of all elements, the smartphone is very nice in the palm of your hand. Only the volume and power buttons are tactilely highlighted.

On top there is a 3.5 mm combined audio jack.

Below is a micro USB connector and a second microphone hole, and on the left side is a tray for micro and nano SIM cards.

You can insert either two SIM cards (micro and nano), or a SIM (micro) card and a memory card into the tray.

Display

ZenPhone 3 Max is equipped with a display on the IPS matrix, with a diagonal of 5.2 inches and a resolution of 1280 x 720. The image is completely smooth, even on round figures no aliasing is visible. Viewing angles are great, and the color quality is traditionally high. The maximum brightness is 400 cd / m2.

Software

The device is Android 6.0 with a proprietary graphic shell ZenUI 3.0. It allows you to download and install all sorts of themes. The system buttons "Back", "Home" and "Running applications" are not made as a separate touch panel under the screen, but are displayed at the bottom of the screen.

Of course, the smartphone has pre-installed branded applications: ShareLink, ZenCircle, ZenTalk, and others.

Cameras

For the main camera, a matrix with a resolution of 13 megapixels is used. The five-element lens is manufactured by Largan Precision. Front camera resolution - 5 MP.

The fingerprint scanner on the back panel can be used not only for its intended purpose - to unlock the smartphone - but also to control the camera. For example, to switch from the main to the front camera, as well as to release the shutter.

Performance

ZenFone 3 Max is based on MediaTek's MT6737T platform. It is equipped with two ARM processors: the central 64-bit quad-core Cortex A53 (operating frequency up to 1.5 GHz) and the graphic Mali-T720. The amount of RAM - 2 or 3 GB.

A feature of the ZenPhone 3 Max is its battery - 4130 mAh. Moreover, the smartphone can work in the external charger mode for other gadgets, for this purpose, the USB-micro USB adapter that comes with it is used.

Thanks to the energy-efficient hardware and large battery capacity, the smartphone can work without recharging for a very long time. PC mark load test result:

Have you found times when mobile phones “lived” on a single charge for 4-7 days, and not only were they lying, but were quite actively used for calls and SMS? In the era of smartphones, we have already forgotten what it is - for a few days not to remember about the charger. And almost 13 hours of continuous work at ZenPhone 3 Max gives us hope that not only history develops in a spiral, but also technology. After all, more than half a day of surfing is equivalent to almost a day of talk time: according to the manufacturer, 20 hours. Moreover, it is stated that the smartphone can lie down for up to 30 days in the standby mode. I suspect that for this it needs to be switched to power saving mode and turn off everything that is possible, leaving only the function of cellular communication. But even if he can hold out for two weeks in such a state, this is already a big step towards the longevity of smartphones.

Conclusion

ASUS ZenPhone 3 Max (ZC520TL) is a modern smartphone, comparable in performance to ASUS ZenFone 3 Laser. Even their hulls are almost the same. However, they are not direct competitors: the Laser has a larger screen resolution and an improved camera focusing system, and the Max has a more capacious battery by a third. So if you are not fond of taking pictures in a situation where the bill goes on for a second, if you often stay away from sockets for a long time, then pay attention to ZenFone 3 Max - there are not so many rivals for “longevity”.

Recommended retail price: 12,990 rub.
