Proprioception for non-specialists. Part 4 - when hands from x0 $ s can be useful

It is unpleasant to spill juice or coffee on yourself or on the carpet. Staying without half the soup for lunch is not as scary as getting a stain on a shirt or trousers. How to transfer a full plate of soup, not shedding? How can “not from the shoulders” arms help in performing such a complex motor task?

The common expression in relation to awkward, constrained, often erroneous people has a neurophysiological context, allowing any person to seriously facilitate the task of transferring liquids in an open container, pile up objects on a tray.

It will take 20-30 seconds to improve such an important skill, the details - under the cut.

Find a full cup of water, or fill a plate with water and try to walk around the room with them. How easy is it to keep liquid from splashing?

Now imagine that your shoulder girdle is located at the level of the pelvis, shoulder joints at the level of the hip.

Check the result. How much easier was it to carry a vessel with water without spilling it?

Aligning the body relative to the force of gravity of the Earth is a very difficult task. Adding this task to the need to maintain the water level in the pot while walking dramatically complicates matters.

Using the “hands from x0 $ y” metaphor reduces the complexity of the action performed. The movements of the hands stabilize with respect to the center of gravity of the body and it remains to simply move it smoothly in space, transferring a dangerously mobile load to a new place.

UPD. Still make a lesson before writing a comment. Proprioceptive lessons require the experience of making this movement from the first person, any analogies that are not confirmed by their own research, in this case do not work.
