Vice Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich instructed to introduce the "Internet of things" in agriculture

According to the minutes of the meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich of October 21, an official instructed his subordinates to introduce technologies for the Internet of things in agriculture, Vedomosti reports . This information is also confirmed by two people who were present in the hall.

The order was received by representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media. These structures will be engaged in developing a plan for the implementation of the “Internet of Things” in the agro-industrial complex, and will also prepare a plan for providing Internet access on farmlands of the Voronezh Region, Stavropol and Krasnodar Territories.

The basis of the motivation for the introduction of high technologies in agriculture is low labor productivity in the sector (according to this indicator, the Russian Federation lags 3-5 times behind the countries of Europe and the USA). The experience of foreign agrarians shows that the use of high-tech solutions makes it possible to increase this indicator and, accordingly, reduce the cost of production.

Optimization will undergo storage systems and primary processing of agricultural products. Sergei Skripnikov, deputy director of the Internet Initiatives Development Fund, notes that this will not only increase the competitiveness of domestic farmers, but also help minimize the use of chemicals and better combat theft.

For employees in the field it is planned to develop and implement special information systems and services. With the help of satellite imagery and publication of analyzed data on the Internet, farmers will receive information on the state of farmland and their effectiveness. It is also planned to implement a climate risk management system. Weather data will be taken from meteorological stations and radars of Roshydromet. All listed information will be freely available on state portals. For all the above solutions, farmland must be provided with Internet access.

According to statistics, the penetration of high technologies in the domestic agro-industrial complex is only 5-10%. At the same time, the representative of the Ministry of Agriculture considers this figure in a positive light with the motivation that “the work has gone”.

This year, for the first time in modern history, the Russian Federation has become the largest exporter of wheat in the world. The main reason for this, however, was not the optimization of production, but the low price of oil and the record harvest in terms of volumes. At the same time, on the territory of Russia there are 9-10% of all arable lands of the planet.

In what time frame and at whose expense the above projects will be implemented is not specified yet.
