Tim Berners Lee Launches WWW Foundation

Tim Berners Lee , the creator of the World Wide Web, last weekend announced the creation of an organization designed to study the mechanisms and processes occurring in the network. WWWFoundation received financial support of $ 5 million from media investors from the Knight Foundation.

The organization has already started its activities from three points:

1. Web Science and Research .
In WWWF, the Internet is considered from the standpoint of the exact sciences (physics, mathematics), biomedicine, social sciences (in Russian, we call them "humanitarian") and computer technologies. Another important task is to provide all the conditions for the effective acquisition of accumulated knowledge by any specialist from anywhere in the world.

2. Web Technology and Practice (Web technologies and standards).
Improving existing standards, protocols, software versions and technologies necessary for the existence of the network.

3. Web for Society (Web for society).
T.B. Lee: "We want to learn from people living in socially and economically developing countries how the network can make their lives better." In addition, this item includes the development of social programs to expand access to the Internet around the world.
