Google can create your fleet

The energy needs of Google and other IT companies are growing. Already, data centers consume more than 1% of the world's electricity, and this proportion is rapidly increasing. Need to do something. Recently, Google has become the largest investor in geothermal energy , and now it has become aware of a new invention: these are the so-called data barges with servers on board, which are powered by wave energy .

Such ships anchor at a distance of up to 11 km from the coast, where standard float-operated power generators are scattered over the waves (in the picture to the right).

In fact, this invention is far from practical application. Firstly, the patent itself has not yet been made publicly available, so Google’s plans cannot be officially confirmed. The only evidence is the words of the journalist of the British newspaper The Times , who saw the patent application.

Secondly, the generation of electricity using wave energy is not a common practice, at present only experimental studies are being conducted in this area. True, Google has an advantage here, because in the "data barges" one of the main problems is automatically solved - the method of accumulation and removal of electricity. Here it does not need to take anywhere. It is consumed directly at the place of "production". In addition, the problems of heat removal from the servers here are solved ideally simply because the global ocean is the best source for water cooling. It is enough to put simple pumps.

Experts are pretty good about the invention of Google. The author of the largest data center blog on the Web said that it was "a truly innovative, non-standard idea."
