American film distribution is translated into a figure

Universal Pictures and Warner Brothers decided to translate the American cinema into a figure. When the necessary technologies “ripen”, cinema centers will be able to order copies of films over the Internet, receive them via satellite channel and broadcast using a digital projector.

The project of digitalization of cinemas, according to the plans of its authors, should cover 12 thousand institutions in the USA - one third of their total number, Kommersant reports. It can cost as little as $ 100 million. At the same time, satellite dishes and rental of communication channels will cost no more than $ 10 million. Most of the budget will require the equipping of cinemas with digital cinema projectors worth $ 100,000 per piece.

But in the end, such investments should be profitable - and film companies, and cinemas. Second-tier dealers are not always ready to buy a copy of a painting for $ 4.5 thousand - this amount may be comparable to the rental revenue. The cost of a digital copy, according to experts, is zero. The manufacturer due to him 50% of the profits will receive for any financial success rental.

An initiative similar to that proposed by Western film majors was in Russia. But there were no funds for the project of the Ministry of Information Technologies "Narodny screen". Then, in 2003, it was proposed to broadcast films from the FSUE “Satellite Communications” satellites to regional halls.

But there are digital screens in the country - now there are 6 of them, and by the end of the year there will be about 25. It will be possible to talk about more large-scale digitalization of cinemas closer to the end of the decade, Russian market participants say.
