Roskomnadzor entered the professional social network Linkedin into the registry of prohibited sites, this is reported on the official website of the department.

Last week, November 11, it became known that Linkedin, a professional social network, would be blocked on the territory of the Russian Federation due to non-enforcement of the law on “personal data”.

On August 4, the Tagansky District Court upheld the lawsuit of Roskomnadzor in defense of an indefinite number of persons and decided to block the social network Linkedin in the territory of the Russian Federation. The appeal filed by Linkedin Corporation and reviewed on November 10 by the Moscow City Court Appeals Board was rejected.

It was not taken into account that Linkedin Corporation could not act as a defendant in a lawsuit on the territory of the Russian Federation (another legal entity of the social network, Linkedin Ireland Unlimited Company from Dublin, was involved in working with Europe and the Russian Federation), nor the deadline and method of notifying the respondent ( The written notice for Linkedin Corporation was drawn up in Russian and delivered on the eve of the meeting, which did not allow the company to prepare for the consideration of the case or to request a postponement of the meeting).

The court also ignored Linkedin’s lack of official representation in the Russian Federation, the fact that users voluntarily transferred their data for processing and storage, as well as the objection that Cookies, IP addresses and information about the browser are not personal data.

Linkedin, according to HR reviews , was a popular recruiting tool for top management and IT specialists. In addition to the Russian Federation, the social network is blocked in Syria, Iran, Sudan, North Korea and Cuba.
