In "Bookvoed" a meeting "Science is not flour" on a series of books "New Science" and "Pop Science"

Scientific series editor Oleg Sivchenko spoke about books on space exploration.

We started with the “History of everything. 14 Billion Years of Cosmic Evolution , by Neil Degrass Tyson and Donald Goldsmith. As Oleg noted, exoplanets are one of the “highlights” of the book, although in general the book is devoted to more general issues.

Tyson and Goldsmith are trying to cover the entire period of the development of the Universe - to show what technical capabilities gave us the tools for space exploration.

Then we went to the book "Dreams of the Earth and the Sky" by Freeman Dyson.

Oleg Sivchenko elaborated on the “Dyson sphere” - a concept in which Freeman argues that the development of the planetary system requires a large amount of energy - the energy of a star. Therefore, we need special technologies for collecting this energy, which are quite large-scale and should be noticeable, for example, “shine”. By this “brilliance”, it is just that one can detect the activity of an advanced extraterrestrial civilization.

Also at the meeting, Oleg Sivchenko raised the issue of the relationship between science and religion. Referring to the book "God and the Multiverse" by Victor Stenger.

Oleg explained that science is trying to investigate a religious picture of the world, to check it, to reveal facts, and if this fails, then science does not deal with religion.
