Reasons for writing

This text is a snapshot of the marketing research of the Russian market for software cooperation for small teams, which I did for the Comindwork project, the Russian-Ukrainian system of project management online. I thought that it would be useful both for me and for people who are looking for such systems, and for ... competitors :)

I will immediately say my research result: the Russian market lags behind the global software market for joint work by 2-3 years. Proof of?

Need: project management for small

New global trends, greatly reducing the cost of installation and implementation of industrial automation products in the company, are not yet widely spread.

• SaaS delivery, software-as-a-service, provision of automation services as a service via the Internet, rather than a product installed on the company's server
• AbSD , appliance-based software delivery, hardware-implemented software, or, in a simple way, installing a server box with pre-installed software
• and most importantly, the very approach to the organization " Company 2.0 ", Enterprise 2.0.

IT companies, like the vanguard of building management processes, have already mastered the new tools. English-speaking, non-localized products are suitable for these companies: most understand English. But more and more companies in other areas are based on the same principles of Company 2.0:

• Consultants and training centers in all industries
• Marketing and Advertising Agencies
• Publishing houses and literary agents
• Law and Law Offices

This list includes any small service-oriented companies. Service-oriented in the modern world almost always means “built on knowledge”, i.e. KIO, knowledge-intensive organizations.

Gartner, like other analysts, consider the software market for collaboration and project management in small teams one of the most promising software markets at the moment. The production process is the third most critical process in the company, after finance and customer relations (CRM), is not yet covered by standard approaches, and the struggle for it is serious.

The main constraint for implementing project process support systems is the price, according to Cnews Analytics . So corporate ERP-systems that require consultants and implementers, we do not take into account. Only those systems that allow the team to customize the process and tools for themselves. Or with the support of consultants via the Internet.
The maximum price that such teams are willing to pay for service is up to $ 100 per person per year.

World market

So, what is at the moment in this global market - and in the Russian-speaking market?

With the global market, everything is clear: type in the search collaboration software, or task management, or select the appropriate system:

• Basecamp and Campfire from 37 Signals, leaders in task management
• Microsoft Sharepoint for more complex tasks
• WebOffice from WebEx
• Huddle
• and many others, both specialized and general.

There are reviews and comparisons of such software in which you can already get stuck for weeks. But there is no real leader on the market, and it is not expected in the next couple of years (again, according to Gartner).

Russian market

Now a little closer to Russia and the Russian-speaking market. Some products have an interface translated into Russian, but these programs mostly still require some programmer's efforts in fine-tuning and installation: these are either open-source or products that have emerged from open-source.
So, the task was to find a Russian-language project management service for small / medium businesses . The main limitations are: Russian interface, website and support; not ERP; not CRM; not Microsoft Project (product for actual planning, not project management); It should be cheaper than $ 100 per person per year.

Search method

I opened Yandex and started searching. Russian language, of course, has a huge number of synonyms and inflections, but I spent a lot of time! Using Yandex Words , I tried to cover all possible requests for finding such a service. And frankly, was actually discouraged by the lack of the Russian market for collaboration software, software for cooperation.

And the most important thing in this article is the search results:

• MegaPlan : task management, and the only advertised system I have found
• MetaFour, MetaFor : local installation only, no SaaS
• IBN from MediaChase : a corporate level system translated into Russian, quite adult and developed
• DotProject : the former open-source, there is a translation of the interface itself into Russian
• EGroupWare : to be honest, in the demo version failed to translate everything into Russian
• TrackStudio : good system, local installations only
• IntraWork : I can only say that I could not find a demo version or look at prices
• Teamspace : clearly well done, but again I was unable to watch a demonstration
• WebAsyst : all is well :)
• Well, actually, Comindwork :) I can’t help myself.
