Samsung products are dangerous not only smartphones, but also washing machines.

An example of the destruction of a conventional washing machine from vibration

At the end of August, the owners of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone faced the explosion of the battery of their purchase. The manufacturing company had to withdraw a huge number of devices and incur serious financial and reputational losses.

While worldwide information was spreading that the Galaxy Note 7 could declare war on its owner and explode while charging or working, new data on the products of the Korean giant surfaced.

This time washing machines became the culprits of bad news. A potential threat is represented by units with a vertical load (series WA400 and WA500), which are more popular in Europe and the USA than in the expanses of the former USSR.

According to the information provided by the manufacturer, the Korean giant is currently engaged in an active dispute with the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) regarding the safety of washing machines made from 2011 to 2016.

According to the ABC News report , the washing machine “scatters” during operation, and its parts turn into shrapnel.

One American woman told reporters that her Samsung washing machine “exploded” while working with such force that fragments broke down the garage wall.

According to the conclusions of Samsung specialists, this phenomenon is associated with overloading of the machine components when washing bed linen or items made from water-repellent materials at high speeds.

For anyone who ever washed something with a duvet cover, the situation of “knocking down” the linen in one room inside the car is familiar. This leads to an uneven load on the drum. The same effect can be observed when washing one massive object, for example, a rug.

Modern washing machines equipped with load sensors successfully identify the problem of uneven load and try to “distribute” the laundry over a larger drum area at low revs. If this fails, the machine does not switch to high speed mode during washing and spinning.

However, apparently the problematic models of Samsung washing machines ignore the uneven load on the drum, which leads to disastrous consequences.

Engineers of the company recommend using “delicate” mode with low revolutions when washing bulky items. Why the washing machine does not withstand the loaded drum in the normal mode and scatters like a bomb filled with shrapnel, or does not prevent the overload of its own units during operation, the company does not comment.
