FBI confiscated domain Megaupload.org advertises soft porn

Almost five years ago, on an FBI tip, 76 armed special forces and policemen with two helicopters raided Kim Dotcom’s mansion in New Zealand, where he lived with his beautiful wife. The German entrepreneur, the owner of the largest file sharing service Megaupload, seized $ 17 million worth of property, including seven 60-inch TVs from the game room, where the man played his favorite games. Due to his arrest, Kim Dotcom even lost 1st place in the CoD: MW3 world ranking .

Simultaneously with the arrest of the entrepreneur, numerous Megaupload servers installed at a hoster in the USA were confiscated. At the peak of its popularity, the daily audience of Megaupload numbered 50 million people, and the site generated 4% of all traffic on the Internet . The FBI also “confiscated” Megaupload domains by rewriting the accounts.

In January, seven people were arrested and $ 50 million worth of property was confiscated.

Four years of ongoing consideration of the case on the extradition of Kim Dotcom to the United States and his appeal. The entrepreneur has already declared bankruptcy due to exorbitant spending on lawyers, and the final decision is unlikely to be made before 2017 . Similar extradition cases continue with other accused Megaupload employees.

Lead programmer Megaupload served time and was released (Estonian programmer was the only Megaupload employee who was actually put in jail because he accidentally flew into the United States on a tourist visa).

The FBI still controls both servers and Megaupload domains, including Megastuff.co, Megaclicks.org, Megaworld.mobi, Megaupload.com, Megaupload.org and Megavideo.com. Initially, notifications were posted on these domains that domains were confiscated as part of a criminal investigation. But now visitors Megaupload.org waiting for a surprise.

Now at this address is placed a site with advertising soft porn. On some other sites, ads also appeared, including on Megaclicks.org, Megastuff.co and Megaworld.mobi. All this happens under the control of the FBI, which is still listed as the domain administrator .

The problem is that initially the old DNS-server Cirfu.net was specified for the domains, which remained from the time of Kim Dotcom.

Unknown attackers waited until Cirfu.net expired, captured the domain - and began to monetize it in a standard way, parked it at Rook Media , which advertises on unnecessary cybersquatters domains. The site does not generate too much profit. Considering his popularity in the past, many mentions in the media, maybe attackers get a few dozen dollars a day.

Kim Dotcom continues to sue on his extradition to the United States. He says that the carelessness of government officials is characteristic of this whole affair. The appeal of law enforcement agencies with Megaupload domains reflects the general attitude of the authorities to this case, which is extremely unprofessional.

Only after the loss of the name server surfaced in the media, would-be FBI experts noticed this. Now the FBI has already changed the name server, so the advertisement for soft porn on the FBI website will disappear soon.

A year ago, such nonsense happened to the main server Megaupload.com. Looks like the FBI doesn't learn from its mistakes at all.

In the meantime, Kim Dotcom is preparing for an era in the United States. He believes that his trial should be broadcast live on Youtube .
