Official support for Oculus Rift appeared in Minecraft

At the same time, the developer of the third-party mod Minecrift was asked to roll up the project

Yesterday, August 15, the Oculus website released the release of the official support of the company's virtual reality glasses in the popular game Minecraft, which is currently owned by Microsoft. Of all the platforms, only Windows 10 support is claimed.

A few days before the announcement, Microsoft, together with Mojang, told the developer of the Minecrift mod about its rights and demanded to stop supporting the product. The creator of the modification, Mabrowning, told Reddit users about this:

Hello. Now that Microsoft and Mojang (the Minecraft developer, was bought by Microsoft, note) have released VR support for MCPE / Win10, they claim the unofficial Minecrift mod. A few days ago I received a notification that we can no longer use the Minecrift name or the domain minecraft-vr.com. I’ve already stopped our website, but anyone who wants to get a copy of the code may have time to pick it up from GitHub while you can.

As everyone knows, StellaArois and I burned out during the work and there were not so many updates in the last year, so we turn off the mod and go to a complete reorganization, including to get rid of Minecrift. We recommend everyone interested in playing Minecraft on PC with VR glasses to try another project - vivecraft . OpenVR well supports Oculus Rift headsets. JrBudda did a great job and I'm glad that he was able to understand what we did, was able to pick up an open source project, expand and improve it!

Since Mojang will soon gain control of the minecraft-vr.com domain, I recommend that everyone delete any Minecrift files on their machines, as the site can check for updates.

Best regards, and thanks for the fish !

In order to justify the technological giant, we can say that the “seizure” of the domain and the instruction to abandon the name of Minecrift carries, in the first place, the problem of branding. The company could not allow itself so that the resource and project existed so congruent with their product, since by some users they could be perceived as official MS products.

At the same time, no action is taken against Vivecraft, because, firstly, it contains the name of a competitor (HTC Vive), not Microsoft or Oculus, and secondly, the official Oculus support in Minecraft is limited only to Win10 and for players on other platforms or the original Java version, the JrBudda project is the only way to enjoy your favorite game using a VR headset, including Oculus.
