During the presentation, Zdzarski explained that the iPhone, it turns out, constantly takes screenshots of the screen and saves them. The text of the e-mail is also removed, and the IM-pager window and everything else that by an unfortunate coincidence appeared on the screen at the moment when the “Home” button was pressed. This is done exclusively for aesthetic purposes. When the user clicks on the “Home” button, the current window should shrivel up and disappear from the screen. For this, a screenshot is taken.

And although the iPhone erases the previous screenshot every time it makes the next one, there is no difficulty in restoring the “deleted” files, as Zdzarski demonstrated during the webcast.

The saddest thing is that the user has no way to stop recording screenshots or securely erase files. Moreover, it turns out that this hole has long been known to specialists from the special services, who, during the investigative work, repeatedly restored and investigated such screenshots on “iPhones” confiscated from criminals. So do not press the “Home” button if important information is on the screen.
However, recovering screenshots is not the only way to extract private information about the victim. Information is also retrieved from the keyboard cache, Safari cache, Google Maps query information, etc. There are facts of successful recovery of photos and emails deleted a few months before.
