Steelseries - how to make gaming mouse mats? (video)
In the fifth edition of CyberKitchen from the e-sports organization APEIGAMING we will talk about the production of "gaming devices", namely gaming mouse pads. I managed to visit one of the factories in China, where such brands as Thermaltake, ASUS, COUGAR, SteelSeries and many others make their rugs.
The game pad starts its way from a huge machine. It loads components for a future product. This is the basis of natural rubber, which does not allow the carpet to slide on the surface and the fabric lining on which the mouse will travel in the future. By the way, the factory has a choice of more than 10 different sliding surfaces that mimic the so-called SPEED (like the Razer Goliathus Speed) and CONTROL (like the Razer Goliathus Control) options, that is, a smoother and slippery surface or more abrasive and stable for maximum accurately fixing the position of the mouse.

The output is a multimeter canvas, which rolls up into rolls and waits in the wings. Next we move to the cutting department. The rug can be shaped in two ways: manually, for this, the factory has more than 300 blanks of various shapes and sizes or with a laser cutter. Naturally, in the second case, the cut angle is perfectly neat and accurate, but this method is not surprisingly more expensive. After passing the quality control game carpets are sent for painting. Initially, they all have the same color and texture.
There are also various options for customizing the bottom rubber surface, Steelries (for example, watermarks with the brand logo), of course, all this affects the price, but does not affect the overall quality of the gaming pad in any way. During the shooting of the plot at the factory, the party for Steelseries was preparing to pack in the amount of 5000 pieces and we managed to “touch” only the produced samples.
