The 15x4 science popularization project holds open lectures and scales to new cities

Last summer, when the 15x4 movement appeared , hardly anyone would have thought that the project would grow so fast. It all started with a few people who were crazy about science, who liked to retell Wikipedia. And then the first lecture hall opened in Kharkov. A little later - the second, in Kiev. Over time, more and more events were held in different cities, and new and new lecture notes appeared on the 15x4 YouTube channel .

Now 15x4 is a community of popularizers of science, whose members want people to speak and share knowledge. Events are already held in Moscow, Kiev, Kharkov, in Lviv, in Chisinau and Chernivtsi.

15x4 - categorically non-commercial association of scientists and fans of science. The project activities are not monetized, and the entrance to all events in all cities has been and remains free.

To date, about 150 lectures have been read and about 50 events have been held. Lecture topics are very diverse. Lecturers often read about physics and biology, there were also lectures about technology, medicine, psychology, linguistics and, of course, space. Including now on the site you will find lectures about the Large Hadron Collider, gluten, vaccination, homeopathy, CRISPR, 3D printing, quantum computers and text editing.

The standard duration of one lecture is 15 minutes, and there are 4 lectures at a regular event.

Below are some fairly popular lectures.

In social networks you can subscribe to information about 15x4 events in your city.

If you can help open a 15x4 brunch somewhere else, the community members will be happy to help you. In any big city soon there are many volunteers who want to prove themselves in the organization of events.

The 15x4 task is to popularize science and even to popularize the very idea of popularizing science. All lecture halls are opened by volunteers, which anyone can join. Communication and organization of work take place in Slack and Trello. You can join the project and enter one or several teams. For example, you may be interested in the site, organizing events, writing and editing subtitles, making translations or supervising the participation of 15x4 at the Publishers Forum in Lviv. Or maybe you would just like to give a lecture. In all these cases, or if you want to do something else for the project, you just need to contact the organizers .

The range of areas of knowledge that interest visitors is very wide, so the lecturers themselves choose what they would be interested to talk about. A lecturer can be of any age, and have any education, or not have any: it is only important to have a good understanding of the specifics of the subject, and, according to general rules, come to the rehearsal several times. During the rehearsals, other members of the community help to improve the presentation and the text, advise how to prepare for the listeners' questions, and make the lecture get high-quality and interesting, and then its recording was pleasant to watch.

There is a demand for science, and it is much more than can be expected. In Kharkiv, hundreds of people are already attending the events, mostly learning about them from social networks. And even in small towns, the announced events gather many interested listeners.

All those involved in 15x4 are confident that the world will be better if we tell others about what we know. If a person shares knowledge, he will not get less from it, while others will have more opportunities for self-realization, and maybe they will do something good and useful. Besides, doing smarter than others is very nice.
