In continuation of the recently raised
habrotopik about open source hardware, I would like to share the news that I just found.
The Canadian CRC (Communications Research Center Canada) has created a prototype of the first device based on the Neo FreeRunner openmophone of the Openmoko project. It was named
Openmokast , which explains its main feature - this phone is equipped with access to broadcast data broadcasting (datacasting).
For this, the CRC added the original Neo FreeRunner:
- USB receiver for decoding radio signals of various formats (DAB, DAB +, DMB, Slideshow, Visual Radio and Journaline);
- included in the software of the project CRC-DABRMS, originally intended to control the DAB-receivers for the PC.
It turned out this phone:

Its software interface can be viewed on
LinuxDevices.com and on
Openmokast.org .
Openmokast will show the public at IBC 2008, which will be held in Amsterdam (Holland) from 12 to 16 September.
