The car shown at the ceremony is a basic modification of MS-21-300 with a capacity from 163 to 211 pass - depending on the layout. At different stages of readiness is 4 aircraft. Now the second MS-21 prototype is already in the final assembly shop. He will be ready by the end of the summer. In September, this prototype is planned to be delivered to TsAGI to begin static tests. The institute will check the strength of the structure.

The maximum take-off weight of the MS-21-300 is 79,250 kg, the range is 6,000 km.

The first prototype MS-21 is equipped with PW1400G engines from the American company Pratt & Whitney. This powerplant was certified by the FAA in May of this year. Russian certification of MS-21-300 with PW1400 is scheduled for 2018. Aircraft certification according to European EASA standards should take place a year later.

For aircraft of the family provides an alternative power plant - the Russian engine PD-14. In the fall of 2015, his flight tests began at the IL-76LL flying laboratory. As of June 1, the total operating time of the test engines during ground and flight tests was 1000 hours. The second stage of flight tests should start in July of this year.

According to representatives of the United Engine-Building Corporation (UEC), which is developing the PD-14, the first engines to be installed on the MS-21 will be delivered in 2017. In total, UDK will deliver five engines to Irkut for flight tests. PD-14 certification in the IAC AR is expected in 2018. According to the president of the United Aircraft Building Corporation (UAC), Yuri Slusarius, deliveries of MS-21 with Russian engines are scheduled to begin in 2019.

The main highlight of the aircraft - composite wing. It is manufactured as a one-piece element using vacuum infusion technology. In serial models, no one else in the world has done this. This made it possible to create a wing with a record elongation of 11.5. Wing Extension - the ratio of the wing span to the middle chord (width) of the wing.
