For reconnaissance in the city of City-17 of Half-Life 2, a special type of reconnaissance drones, the City Scanner, was used. Police forces from the game used such drones to keep order in the city and fix all violations.
Now this drone has become a reality. True, it is not the law enforcers who work with him, but the fans of quadcopters. The creator of the drone is a resident of Saratov, Valentin Demchenko. Already during the first test, the drone astonished passers-by. Still, it’s not every day that you see before yourself that which until now was only part of a popular game.

“I promised to make the flying City Scanner model from the game Half Life 2. For this, I once again installed the game and played a little. I took it apart and studied it, and again took it apart, and studied it again. Also hundreds of screenshots were made, drawings were made. A quadrocopter was chosen as a carrier. And I decided not to do it from scratch, but to use one of my previous projects, ”the developer says. Drone Platform - DJI Naza-M Lite without GPS, AX-2810Q-750KV Brushless Quadcopter Motor engines, Afro ESC 30Amp, three-blade screws 9 ", 3300mAh 4S 30C battery.
To study the drone in the game, the developer used the original method - just smashed the next drone with a crowbar, and looked at what details remained lying on the ground, and what was the shape of the details. The length of the drone - 80 cm, height - 55 cm. The frame with a diagonal of 39 centimeters is made of carbon. Unfortunately, in offline mode, the drone can last only 11 minutes in the air. In addition, this device is strongly influenced by the wind - the drone has a high windage due to the opened “petals” of the hull.
