The mobile operator MTS presented the tariff “ Smart Unlimited ” with unlimited Internet for 570 rubles per month (387 rubles in the first month), which operates throughout Russia. This price includes another 200 minutes of calls to other networks in the region (within MTS - unlimited).

The risky step of the operator is skeptical of independent experts. Only a few percent of subscribers using unlimited Internet at maximum speeds can create significant local loads on the network, which will lead to a deterioration in quality for the rest, said Tele2 representative Konstantin Prokshin in a commentary for the Vedomosti newspaper.

However, MTS had no choice. A similar unlimited tariff was launched by VimpelCom in March 2016 - it costs 500 rubles. per month (+600 minutes of voice calls).

MegaFon has no unlimited tariff yet.

Unlimited mobile Internet in its pure form carries great risks for operators, says Uralsib analyst Konstantin Belov. In contrast to fixed-line communications, the operator cannot guess how many subscribers will be in the coverage area of ​​one station, and therefore, has to invest a lot in infrastructure in order to maintain a high data rate. Therefore, the operators keep loopholes for themselves in order to limit subscriber traffic if necessary.

Analysts believe that the new tariff is not designed for mass audiences, otherwise the network will not survive.

MTS is trying to insure against overload. The operator informs about the restriction of traffic of users of file-sharing networks and subscribers who use the SIM card in the modem.

With increased network load, the access speed may also be limited.
