Recently, I caught myself thinking that Unix hosting is a dead end for development.
The main problem is the impossibility of limiting sites neither in mod_perl, nor in mod_python etc.
The only solution is for PHP only.

What actually makes impossible high-quality virtual hosting for RoR, Zope etc.
Based on the comments, a little explanation:
1) virtual hosting, unfortunately, is still quite demanded by us. Very many need cheap hosting, so even with the support of modern technology. Although, of course, the future is in VPS.
2) for virtual hosting it is important to set limits on the set of APIs provided, the amount of memory consumed per request, the server load.
