Game of Thrones in numbers

Surely I'm not the only one who is waiting not only for the next episode of the series, but also for the next book of the fantasy novel “A Song of Ice and Fire”. In the article I will not touch on the adaptation of the story, because its analysis is complex and more in the book of information. I will try to give the most interesting statistics that I managed to find. Let the title not confuse you, then we will discuss the whole series of the author’s books, or rather the first 5 books that were published at the time of this writing.

For a start it is worth noting that the author writes a story from a third party. Each chapter of the book, with the exception of the prologue and the epilogue, is devoted to one actor and everything that happens is described from his point of view .

The number of characters, actions and speeches in the story is impressive. Thereby, this is a large amount of data that can be analyzed and get interesting statistics.

Do you still doubt that this story is about Starks? If you count John Snow as Stark, then in aggregate this house has 160 chapters out of 344x.
Catelyn Stark on account of 5th, though not quite alive.
The only "royal" character on whose behalf the story is being told is Dainerys. No other king or heir to the throne wrote an author or chapter.

And now let's look at social statistics. Total words heroes said: 749406 .

Demography

In the world of thrones with this is not all clear. The number of men significantly exceeds the female share of the population, four times to be exact. Below is a graph of the appearance of characters in books (a graph with accumulation).



And of course death. A total of 427 characters were killed in the books. Numbers can vary, I took statistics from an amateur conversion .

The words

Another interesting indicator, in my opinion, is the number of words used. Of course, every author wants to use as many words as possible, which have not yet appeared before to make it easier and more interesting to read. But some words are not so easy to replace.

It is worth noting that A Hand of the King in English means the Hand of the King. With this is the popularity of the word Hand .
Given that Lady is also the Wolf of Sans, the ratio between Lord and Lady is about 4 to 1, as is the case with the ratio of men and women in the world of thrones.
And of course, John and Tyrion again in the lead. But this time, John walked around Tirion. Although this is possible because as many as 20 different characters in the book are called John, and Tirion mentioned only 2.
