Hello, first of all, congratulations to all of May 9!
However, today, May 9, another, albeit a small victory for the VRDevice team, occurred.
The fact is that our efforts have found a hidden prototype - the device of the company Oculus Rift DKHD2, which used a completely different screen and other lenses than the version for developers Oculus Rift DK2. Please note that this is not just the HD version, but the DK2 HD.
This now allows the use of VRD helmets in conjunction with the Oculus Runtime 0.6 - 0.8 and practically do not have chromatic aberrations (or color bundles), which are artificially created for Oculus Rift DK2 optics.

Chromatic aberrations
To compensate for the
chromatic aberrations of the Rift DK2 lenses, Oculus uses artificial image separation into colors with an edge offset:

On the right in this image is a picture for Oculus DK2, on the left for DKHD2. As you can see, the image for DKHD2 has practically no separation of colors, which means that lenses with much lower chromatic aberrations were used for this prototype.
DKHD2
Apparently, before the release of DK2, Oculus experimented with various screens and lenses. We counted at least several such prototypes, which in the end did not even see the light.
Through various experiments and in-depth study of the Oculus Rift DK2 helmet, we still managed to introduce the helmet as one of these prototypes, which now allows us to view content in a VRD helmet with much greater quality and immersion.
In the light of all these events, we are pleased to announce the largest software update for our customers, which will allow users of VRD helmets to upgrade themselves and get a picture on a helmet of much higher quality.
