Humanoid robot diver explored the ship of Louis XIV sunk 350 years ago.

The humanoid robot diver OceanOne investigated the sunken ship "Luna" of King Louis XIV as part of a team of archaeologists. The Stanford-based robot with tactile feedback and artificial intelligence can be a great helper for researchers and rescuers .

The one-and-a-half meter robot OceanOne, built at Stanford University , is equipped with a stereoscopic camera, tactile feedback manipulators and eight engines. The intelligence of the robot allows you to select the desired force to hold objects, so as not to damage them. OceanOne itself is an avatar that allows you to perform hazardous work with human participation on land, says project author Oussama Khatib.

To test the capabilities of the robot, he was sent to investigate the ship Luna, sunk in 1664, the flagship of the fleet of French King Louis XIV, at a depth of about a hundred meters. OceanOne received all the available data on the ship and, after the dive, independently went to the right direction, avoiding collisions. From the surface of the robot watched (with a first-person view) Khatib - the developer took over after finding a small vase. The robot took it and placed it inside the basket.

Such machines are necessary to work in areas dangerous to humans, for example, to study the coast in the Fukushima area. In Chernobyl, people sacrificed themselves to eliminate the consequences of the accident, and in future in such cases, it is robots that will help save a huge number of human lives.
