On September 8, Google announced the creation of a newspaper archive project that will make millions of old materials published in print publications around the world open to search and viewing.

Google is currently working with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Quebec Chronicle Telegraph, one of the oldest in North America. But, of course, the project will not be limited to two publishers. According to Google, soon within the project, users will be able to familiarize themselves with billions of pages of publications.
According to Google, “our goal is to help readers find any material, no matter where it was printed, in a small local newspaper or in a national diary.” As an example, Google cites the
digitized pages from the July 21, 1969 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
