A new statistical study of the team of scientists from the medical school at the University of Cardiff (Wales, UK) suggests that taking small doses of aspirin not only increases the survival of cancer patients, but also allows you to stop its spread in the body. The discovery was made by examining the available patient histories covering an average of about 5 years of their life.

“There is growing evidence that taking aspirin gives a significant advantage in certain types of cancer,” says Professor Peter Elwood, the lead author of the study , reveals. - Earlier it was already known that taking aspirin reduces the number of diseases, but the role of the drug in the treatment remains uncertain. As a result, we decided to carry out a systematic search in the scientific literature. ”

In the course of the study, researchers studied five tests and forty-two review studies of cases of colorectal, breast and prostate cancer. It turned out that if, in addition to other therapies, patients took small doses of aspirin, the number of deaths decreased by 15–20%, as did the number of cases of cancer.

Researchers point to the need for randomized controlled trials in order to obtain more substantial evidence of the benefits of taking small doses of aspirin in cancer therapy. At the same time, in the job description, Professor Elwood encourages patients undergoing treatment to discuss its results with their physician and make an informed decision about the possibility of using aspirin to improve the effect of treatment.
