According
to Mobile Review, Alcatel-Lucent has announced that its WiMAX 802.16e Compact Base Station base station operating in the 2.5 GHz band has received a WiMAX Forum Certified certificate from the WiMAX Forum. All components of the Alcatel-Lucent WiMAX infrastructure product portfolio are fully compatible with the 802.16e-2005 standard (also known as Rev-e), which supports fixed, session, and mobile services. The acceleration of the appearance of terminals is facilitated by the Alcatel-Lucent “Open CPE Program”, which provides for the implementation of comprehensive tests for mutual compatibility for manufacturers of microchips and end devices.
This important milestone also marked the first step towards certification of the entire Alcatel-Lucent WiMAX solution portfolio, which are offered for other bands and are already being used in several networks around the world, including commercial networks in Europe, Asia and Latin America. Alcatel-Lucent predicts that equipment for the 3.5 GHz band should receive WiMAX Forum Certified certification by the end of 2008.
Currently, the WiMAX Forum includes more than 530 companies, including service providers, regulators, equipment and chip makers, and content providers. Alcatel-Lucent is a member of the WiMAX Forum board. To obtain a certificate, Alcatel-Lucent 802.16e WiMAX products were thoroughly and extensively tested by AT4 wireless laboratories, the leading WiMAX Forum certification partner, and included verification of protocol, radio interface and mutual compatibility.
