Video: Chinese realistic robot Jia Jia - straight from the "sinister valley." Or not?

For three years, the Chinese University of Science and Technology has been working on a realistic robot named Jia Jia. From a distance, the robot looks like a human so much that it is located right in the “sinister valley”: because of minor inconsistencies, it causes discomfort.



The Jia Jia robot from the China University of Science and Technology blinks, watches you with a look, asks you not to shoot it closely - because “the face will seem big in the frame”. The car was made to interact with people, and this is the first robot of this type in the country.

In the next version, developers are planning to add face recognition and depth learning technology. And, perhaps, will teach the robot to laugh, cry, and also make her hands less similar to the hands of a dummy.

Despite the efforts of scientists, the robot, in my opinion, for some people fell into the "sinister valley." It is so much like a person that it seems unpleasant due to minor inconsistencies. Although on closer examination, he is closer to the dummy, unlike the robot Scarlett Johansson - it definitely causes fear.
