Flybord Air - the first jet flying board of Frank Zapata soared into the sky over the weekend

Welcome to the pages of the blog iCover . Keeping a flight of imagination of designer enthusiasts is as difficult as stopping their desire to fly. And it is thanks to them that the jetpack , hovebord and even drone-taxi from the category of bold fantasy have almost moved into our reality.

Today we will talk about one more of these inventions, a new product - a turbojet board called Flybord Air, developed by the well-known Frank Zapata. The prototype of the board has already been created, tested and adequately proved itself at the testing stage. Video of the first flight on Flybord Air appeared in free access over the weekend.

The author of the idea, Frank Zapata, a Frenchman, is well-known as a world champion in a jet ski competition, a talented inventor, a patent holder for Flybord (“flyboard”) and the creator of flybroding, a new sport and recreation, which, nevertheless, is more true for water than to air. Perhaps you had to watch flights on flyboards above the water surface on the board to which a hose is attached, connected behind a scooter racing behind. The water injected under high pressure and pulled out from the bottom by two streams creates sufficient jet thrust to lift the athlete into the air, where he is able not only to move, but also to perform incredible somersaults.

Presented by Zapata in 2011, the “water board” almost immediately became one of the fashionable extreme entertainment, giving the opportunity to experience the sensations of flying in the first approximation. Despite the exciting opportunities offered by Flybord, the water flying board has a number of limitations: it is tightly tied to a jet ski, which in this case can be considered as an integral “part of the design” of the Flybord. At the same time, the maximum lifting height does not exceed 15 meters, and, for obvious reasons, the flight becomes possible only above the water or at the very edge of the reservoir.

Five years have passed since Flybord was announced, and the tireless Zapata decided to surprise the world of extremes again, presenting a new version of an individual flying vehicle. This time, Frank went ahead and introduced the Flaybord Air jet flying board, devoid of the limitations inherent in the previous generation board. Flybord Air is not tied to a hose and a jet ski because it uses air thrust generated by a turbojet engine. The maximum flight duration is still limited to 10 minutes, the maximum lift height (in theory) - 3000 m, speed (in theory) - up to 150 km / h. Of course, a backpack with a small fuel tank is rigidly fixed behind the pilot's back. Flybord Air is controlled using the handheld remote.

On a demo video introducing Flybord Air to us, a 4-minute flight takes place at an altitude of 30 m at an average speed of 55 km / h above the surface of the lake. Behind the control panel is Frank Zapata himself.

From time to time, when viewing, it seems that Zapata designed Flybord Air for himself and those few extreme people who, like professional climbers, do not think of their life without constant risk on the verge of a foul. It is clear that, unlike the almost completely safe predecessor, the Flybord waterboard, an updated version of the flying board is a much more risky experiment.

Not every perfectly trained athlete will dare to conquer a height of many hundreds of meters and soar, balancing on a small-sized plank above the surface of the ground or water. About the average amateur thrill, do not have special physical and psychological preparation and can not speak. However, perhaps our fears and exaggerated, judge for yourself.

If you try to abstract from the issue of security, the flight of the pilot on the Flyboard Air is really impressive.
