In the science-based multiblog SCQ (The Science Creative Quarterly), one of the authors published a
detailed recipe for making beer using a standard drip coffee maker, which can be found in almost every home, and a few more simple items and ingredients.
The author of the method himself specifically states that beer is a rather complicated product, and getting a good beer is as much a science as it is an art. However, he argues that according to his method you can get a pretty good drink - at least, no worse than the cheapest shop drink. In addition, the recipe can be useful in conditions when it is problematic to go to the store - for example, on a yacht in the open sea.

To make a drink, you need:
- drip coffee maker with heating
- coffee filter
- 2 liter containers
- 2 handkerchiefs
- two rubber bands
- clean drinking water
With the ingredients for a drink, everything is a little more complicated - there is a field for creativity. In general, cereals, malt, hops and yeast (preferably beer, and not for baking). You can also add fruit or nuts for flavor. The exact amount of ingredients due to the fact that their properties and quality vary for different areas, will have to be selected empirically.
Regarding cereals and malt, the author gives advice that is suitable only for the American audience, but the hobby called “home breweries” is fairly widespread in our country, and the right ingredients can be purchased there, including malt and granulated hops.
Before cooking it is necessary to thoroughly sterilize all containers - this is a very important step. Next, you need to grind the grain - but not too small, not quite in the dust. The result must be placed in a coffee pot (directly, and not in the filter where the coffee is placed).
Then you need to pour two cups of water (the author deliberately uses these volume measures, since most of the coffee pots measure not in liters, but in cups) and leave the mixture on the floor for an hour - this will give a wort.
Now you need to strain it through the coffee filter, and place it in the filter compartment. There also need to add malt. Then you need to pour the liquid that we have filtered back into the filter and add another cup of water.
Then the resulting liquid must be passed through the coffee machine 5 more times, each time adding 1 cup of water.
After that, the resulting slush should be poured into a saucepan and boil for 45 minutes. 2 minutes before the end add hops.
After boiling, it is necessary to pour the liquid in containers, cool it to 15-20 ºC (when the mixture is cooled enough so that you can safely touch the containers, you need to add yeast to it). Then you need to close the neck of the container with a handkerchief, bandage with a rubber band and leave in a dark, cool place for a week.
PS: I do not drink beer and do not keep a coffee maker, so I ask brave experimenters to share the results of experiments in the comments. A week later.
