We built robots that can walk, talk, play incredibly complex board games, but using them to work in Chinese restaurants was not such a good idea - two restaurants that used robotic waiters closed, and in the third they left only one robot for attracting customers and returning to traditional forms of service,
says shanghaiist .
The waiters complained about their former colleagues. “The robots were unable to carry soup or other food that required sustainability and often broke. The restaurant director decided to never use them again, ”said one of the employees.
Another waiter noticed that the robots were able to perform only a small number of tasks. “Their functionality is very limited. They cannot take orders or pour water for visitors. ”

To hire a robot, you need to “lay out” about 8 thousand dollars, and then spend a few hundred each month for maintenance and repairs. And although these costs are lower than the salary of an ordinary worker, robots are not yet ready to completely replace people.
According to the director of one of the restaurants, the only thing the robots were good for was attracting visitors. “Robots can attract a large number of customers, but they certainly cannot replace people in this area.”
As Zhang Yong, Vice-Rector of the Guangdong University of Technology, noted, modern robots are perfectly capable of replacing humans when it comes to manufacturing operations, but are not good enough to express themselves in areas that require constant interaction with people.
