Leopard: Clever is great with a carbon frame for $ 1300

Bike season on the threshold, and new models of bikes do not keep themselves waiting. The project of the Leopard bicycle from the California studio SpeedX for five days on Kickstarter collected its first million dollars. At the time of this writing, it can still be ordered for $ 1299, there are, however, only 9 pieces. The following are more expensive for a hundred.

What's the trick

The secret of interest in this model lies in three things:

• In the on-board computer, which monitors the parameters of the trip and the physical activity of the cyclist.
• In full carbon frame, fork and seatpost.
• And, of course, in the price for all this.

Construction and materials

The frame and all supporting elements of the structure (except for the steering wheel) are made of T1000 carbon, formed from 207 layers of carbon fiber. The frame weight is only 1.2 kg. A choice of six sizes from 42 to 57 cm, a lifetime warranty.



As the developers write, all structural elements are subjected to tests for strength (there are 300), each up to 440,000 cycles:



The basic version of Leopard (there is also the Leopard Pro) is equipped with a Shimano 105 transmission and TRP brake system.

The bike is equipped with a wedge-type tires from Vittoria Zaffiro, 700x23 mm.

Electronics

The computer measures and monitors 12 activity parameters and has a built-in GPS module:



The cardio sensor and power meter are connected to the computer separately by ANT +.

There is a coach option in real time. The cyclist receives instructions on the quality and intensity of the workout.

What's more interesting, the built-in 150 Lm flashlight is turned on automatically using a light sensor.

The entire electronic unit is powered by a lithium-ion battery that charges. One charge is enough for 800 km or 40 hours of travel.

Commercial shipment of Leopard bicycles is planned for July 2016. The cost of ordering a basic version is from $ 1299, modifications of Leopard Pro are from $ 1999. Delivery to Russia - $ 299.
