Open pre-orders for Ubuntu-tablet

The company Canonical Ltd., engaged in the popularization of free software and the Spanish manufacturer of mobile devices BQ announced the start of preliminary sales of the tablet on the Ubuntu operating system. The tablet is called Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition, is offered in two versions - FHD and HD, and costs € 290 and € 250, respectively .

Normal versions of this tablet come with Android 5.1 Lollipop, but in collaboration with Canonical Ltd., it became possible to buy them with Ubuntu. Last month, at the Mobile World Congress 2016 held in Spain, Canonical demonstrated at its booth both these tablets and the Ubuntu versions of other mobile devices - in particular, Meizu PRO 5, Sony Xperia Z1 and OnePlus One smartphones.

The tablet boasts a 10.1 "screen, a MediaTek Quad-core MT8163A 1.5GHz processor, 2GB RAM, an integrated 16GB drive, a MicroSD slot that supports cards up to 64GB, and an 8 MP camera with dual flash, autofocus and video recording in Full HD (1080p).

The thickness of the tablet is 8.2 mm, and it weighs 470 grams. The tablet also has front speakers, GPS, and a micro HDMI port. Capacity of the Li-Po battery - 7280mAh.

In 2013, Canonical Ltd. I tried using crowdfunding to raise money to create my own Ubuntu Edge smartphone, but I didn’t collect half of the required $ 32 million. However, the collected amount of $ 12.8 was a record of that time for crowdfunding sites.
