According to the World Health Organization, today 350 million people of different ages all over the world suffer from depression, and this ailment is the main cause of indigestion.
A Pittsburgh University study found that the most active users of social networks are 2.7 times more prone to depression. This is a vicious circle: people with signs of illness go to social networks, where their condition worsens.

The
study of the University of Pittsburgh was attended by 1787 Americans aged 19 to 32 years. On average, they spent on social networks 61 minutes a day and entered their profiles 30 times a week. As part of the survey, users of the 11 most popular platforms in the USA were surveyed: Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Google Plus, Instagram, Snapchat, Reddit, Tumblr, Pinterest, Vine and LinkedIn. Now, more than a billion people are actively using Facebook every day, and there are 320 million active users per month on Twitter.

A quarter of respondents showed signs of depression. The authors of the study write that they found "significant and linear links between the use of social media and depression, both in terms of total time spent on social networks and in terms of the frequency of visits."
Dr. Brian Primack, head of the Center for Media, Technology and Health Research, who led the study,
told The Independent that the results of the study cannot determine cause and effect. Probably, people who have already manifested symptoms of depression, begin to actively use social networks, because they do not have the strength to maintain relationships in real life. On the other hand, Primemak reminds of the phenomenon of “Facebook-depression”, when the illness manifests itself due to the inconsistency of the user's life with the “profiles” of his network friends.
It is possible that both of these factors work simultaneously. Then we are dealing with a vicious circle: people are trying to get away from depression in social networks, but there the signs of the disease are increasing.
The World Health Organization in October 2015
published a report according to which depression is one of the main causes of disability of people around the world. This disease affects 350 million people of different ages. Dr. Brian Primemak does not recommend people to stop sitting on Facebook, but hopes to find a way to use social networks as a tool to fight depression.
By the way, the removal of Facebook
