Messenger Wire, created with the participation of people from the Skype team and the financial support of the co-founder of Skype,
received the long-awaited end-to-end encryption. Now everything, from messages to video calls, is encrypted so that information can only be used by the sender and the recipient.
The company Wire , which produces the eponymous messenger, was founded by former Skype developers in Switzerland in 2012. In December 2014, the first version of the application was released. The competitive advantage of the program compared to Skype was called “exceptionally clear voice”. Also on the product site, some kind of security of the messenger was advertised - but then this advertisement disappeared from the resource, since data transmission was encrypted only between the user and the project server.

Now, the program added encryption using the Axolotl protocol with open source code. Initially, this protocol appeared in the open project of the
Signal messenger. Due to his reasonableness and successful implementation, he was recognized by the public, and WhatsApp, Silent Phone and ChatSecure already use it.
Wire has a standard set of functions for instant messengers - the transfer of messages, voice, video, and music. Group chats and group calls with the number of participants up to 5 people are supported. The application is available for Android, iOS and as a web service.
The topic of message encryption has become particularly popular after the scandals associated with exposing the American state mass surveillance program PRISM, which was brought to light by Edward Snowden. The company's headquarters are not in vain located in Switzerland and Germany - these countries stand out for their support of privacy and privacy, while the United States, the United Kingdom and other countries are demanding that encryption be reduced under the pretext of the need to capture terrorists.
