Welcome to the pages of the blog
iCover ! The series of expected exhibitions continued on March 14, the Game Developers Conference (GDC 2016). The event, which this year will last until March 18 inclusive, has traditionally attracted the attention of leading game developers and related technologies. One of the key events that is worth our attention was the announcement of AMD Radeon Pro Duo - the most powerful platform in the world for developers and end users of VR applications.
On March 14, 2016, AMD (NASDAQ: AMD), as part of GDC 2016, presented the most advanced and powerful system for working with virtual reality (VR) 1 today, which can be used both to create and to consume VR content AMD Radeon Pro Duo , together with the LiquidVR SDK proprietary technology package, is a platform that supports almost all aspects of creating VR content of various specifics — from entertainment and education — to materials related to journalism, medicine, and cinema. The unique computing power of 16 teraflops allows you to get a ready-made solution to perform any current tasks of VR developers, allowing you to create modern virtual worlds in the workplace and enjoy the maximum quality of games with support for DirectX® 12 during the rest.

“As the power of computing platforms grows, new opportunities are created to reproduce truly spectacular effects, and this is especially evident in working with virtual reality objects that place special demands on the performance and reliability of computing systems,” explained Raja Koduri, senior vice President and Lead Architect of Radeon Technologies Group at AMD.
Radeon Pro Duo is the world's first specialized platform for creators of VR content. She carries on board immediately two 28-nm graphic processors Fiji. Each chip combines 4096 stream processors, 256 texture units and 64 rasterization blocks and reserves 4 GB of HBM video memory for itself. "These configuration settings automatically bring the AMD Radeon Pro Duo out of the competitive field, turning it into the most productive video card in the world," said the head of the AMD marketing department, Chris Hook, in an interview.

The power supply of the circuit is provided by three eight-pin connectors (TDP at the level of 525 W), liquid cooling functions are entrusted to the Cooler Master system with a 120 x 120 mm radiator. In the reference design, there are three DisplayPort 1.2a connectors and one HDMI 1.4a connector.
The task assigned to the developers of Radeon Pro Duo was formulated like this: “Assess what happens if you combine the capabilities of drivers for professional developers and game drivers and create a promising platform that will not only easily render applications, but also get maximum pleasure from the gameplay.” - said Hook. The idea was implemented and embodied in a dual-processor Radeon Pro Duo. According to Hook, this decision will open up to developers the opportunity to significantly reduce the impact of the delay, which is critically important when creating VR worlds.
Like nVidia, AMD sees virtual reality as one of the priority areas of development and invests heavily in development. One of the projects implemented by the company together with the Associated Press partner is a VR news aggregator. Another intriguing project is the development of a VR application based on the future Assassin's Creed film, which is being conducted jointly with Fox Studios.

In the free sale of the product will appear in the second quarter of this year at the recommended price of $ 1500.
Performance differences between various dual-processor graphics cardsA series of tests was conducted in the AMD Performance Labs lab on March 7, 2016. Cards with two AMD Radeon Pro Duo, AMD Radeon R9 295X2 and Nvidia Titan Z graphics cards with a test system based on Intel i7 5960X and 16GB of RAM took part in the “race”.
AMD 15.301, Nvidia 361.91 drivers together, Windows 10 and 3DMark Fire Strike were used to simulate the load on the GPU.
At resolutions of 1080p, 1440p and 2160P, AMD Radeon R9 295X2 scored 16717, 9250 and 5121 points, respectively, Titan Z showed the result of 14945, 7740 and 4099 points, respectively. AMD Radeon Pro Duo finished with a noticeable margin, gaining 20150, 11466 and 6211 points respectively, overtaking both AMD Radeon R9 295X2 and Titan Z.
However, AMD Radeon Pro Duo is the first product of the new AMD VR Ready Creator line. As part of the presentation, AMD announced it had entered into a partnership agreement with Crytek, with which it plans to launch the VR First program together. The goal of the project is to train students in the development of VR applications. As part of this program, it is planned to install computers equipped with an AMD Radeon Pro Duo in college laboratories around the world. In perspective, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli believes that Crytek VR First can be a key tool for unlocking and shaping new talents in the VR environment, and at the same time stimulating the advancement of technology at the level of average users.
