Rise of the Machines: Amazon Echo began to perform commands heard on the radio

After the transfer to the US National Public Radio about the Amazon Echo digital assistant, activated by voice commands, listeners began to complain about the sudden activation of their devices. The devices recognized words coming from the radios and executed the recognized commands.

One listener complained that his Amazon Echo set the thermostat to 70 ºF (21 ºC). Another wrote that he could not listen to the story about the assistant to the end, because when his assistant heard his name, he began to play the audio summary of the latest news.

The radio presenters had a lot of fun and gave a joke to all the devices that heard them, the command to transfer money to the radio station. However, cases of activation of voice assistants due to radio or television broadcasts are quite frequent.

Interestingly, even representatives of Amazon support, to whom people complain about the problems of voice activation, admit that they also have certain difficulties with the use of assistants - and they are not protected from the false activation of their devices.
